May Sales 2015 2

One of my favorite times of the year is the week of cherry blossoms. Depending on when (yes, in Michigan is a very uncertain WHEN) spring actually begins, determines when the cherry blossoms are going to be the best. In past years, right around the middle of May has been when the trees are in full bloom. However, if spring comes early, they will peak in the first half of the month, if spring comes late, they will peak in the last half of the month. This year I would like to plan ahead and see what we can get scheduled in for family photos, engagement sittings, and child/baby shoots. Sooooo, for the ENTIRE month of May I will be running a special package for every sitting we do in a cherry orchard!!

March 24, 2015 – Bob Durga is a Traverse City Realtor with the Northern Michigan Property Store, serving the greater Grand Traverse and surrounding area. He needed a fresh head shot for his new business cards, website, and social media profiles. Now he has a good selection of images with fully released print and media rights to use wherever and as much as he’d like.
If you are in need of professional business head shots, call me at 231-883-9807 or visit www.paxtonphotography.com to schedule a sitting. Mention this blog post to receive 20% off.

March 17, 2015 – The hype was everywhere! They northern lights were supposed to be better than they have been for years! So I took a nap late in the day and planned to see amazing things in the wee hours of the morning. BUT . . . yes, there were northern lights, but really they were just regular old northern lights, nothing extra spectacular. Only a few fingers shooting here and there and a few shooting stars. The upside was that I got to test out my new Baffin snow boots that I have wanted for years and only splurged on buying at the end of winter this year. The boots did great, in fact in the 20 degree weather, while listening to the young (drunk on St. Patty’s Day) folks down the beach whining about being cold, I was toasty warm. I even had to open my jacket. Good Harbor beach on Lake Michigan was calm and dark. It was a beautiful night.

March 17, 2015 – Star Trails are my new obsession. I think I have it dialed in now. I found a software that compiles each of my frames together. I’m seeing that the more exposures I come back with the better and more prominent the trails are. These are 30 second exposures over 1 hour. I think I need to boost it up to 2 hours next time. Good thing warmer weather is coming!

thank you

March 20, 2015 – Oh, my heart soars! All of the students from the Kids Welding shoot made me a Thank You card! That’s why I do this work!

Darin Fetter from North Shore Iron Works and TJ Carroll from TJ Design Studio hosted students from Leelanau St. Mary’s at Darin’s welding fabrication shop in Traverse City, as they begin the final stages of their art-sculpture project. The children have designed a metal art sculpture that will be constructed by Darin and erected on the school grounds. It was great to see the kids getting hands-on experience with grinders and welding tools. Each student received a small replica of their chosen design and were allowed to grind it smooth all on their own and use a press to bend the side supports. The final sculpture is set to be installed in May of this year.

Crop Lines

As we head into the spring and summer season, I’d like to provide you with a little education on the images you receive on your disk. Standard dimension print and frame sizes are not the same as what the camera shoots! Do you ever wonder why some of your images seem to have extra space left on the sides or why some images cut things off of the long sides? I try to leave space on the sides so there is room to crop but sometimes that is not an option and that is where some things get cut off.
Here is a diagram to help you out.

metal prints 1

My next favorite thing is metal prints!  These prints are actually printed on a metal material and shine in the sun with beautiful reflective tones.  The metal actually shows through the light and white areas of the image to really give a striking appearance on your wall.  You would mount these prints directly to a matte and display glassless in the frame.  Color or black and white is available.  These are priced by quote only.  Let me know what size frame or wall space you are looking to fill and I can help you find the right size image for you.
